I resisted the faint trail beckoning toward the butte. Just like the rock monolith that was saturated with the late afternoon sun of winter, I decided to bask myself in these last rays of afternoon warmth, in anticipation of cooking dinner back at the campground in below-freezing temperatures in the dark.
